Mark Zuckerberg is quietly spinning up a dedicated, isolated Linux virtual computer in the cloud for every single user, entirely for free. Through a new app called Muse, Meta is handing out 100 million tokens of compute per week to let an AI take over a Chromium browser and complete your chores. The era of the passive text generator is over, replaced by a proxy actor authorized to spend your money and click the buttons on your behalf.
The 100-Million-Token Playground
Muse is fundamentally different from the models that defined the last three years of generative AI. Instead of giving you instructions on how to sell your car, the system uses surrogate credentials to log into platforms and list the vehicle itself. It monitors price drops in the background while your phone sits in your pocket, functioning as a tireless digital assistant.
To power this shift from conversation to action, Meta is eating staggering infrastructure costs. Tech writer Mike Pearl tried to exhaust his free weekly allowance of 100 million tokens by forcing Muse to painstakingly code an MS Paint self-portrait in Python and compose MIDI songs. Even with intentional abuse, the sheer volume of free compute highlights the massive power Meta is throwing at consumers who might not yet know what to do with it.
Paid tiers scale up to $100 a month for power users, but the free tier alone requires an unprecedented server rollout. Meta is absorbing the cost of hosting millions of virtual machines to prove that AI can handle civilian busywork. But giving away that much computing power requires a financial commitment that defies traditional corporate logic.
The Infrastructure Inferno

The financial reality behind Muse is staggering. Meta's projected capital expenditure for 2026 is $145 billion, a cash inferno roughly equivalent to the GDP of Morocco. Zuckerberg is shoveling this money into data centers not to sell enterprise software, but to wage an ideological war over who controls personal superintelligence.
This massive spending spree aims to dismantle the centralized AI model favored by competitors. The vision took shape in April with the introduction of Muse Spark, a multimodal reasoning model natively built for tool use and multi-agent orchestration. By September, Muse Spark 1.3 was ready to power the consumer rollout across iOS, Android, and WhatsApp.

Yet, utility is not guaranteed.
